Remove Background
Step-by-step
- 1
Open Remove Background
Drop your photo into the Remove Background tool.
- 2
Wait for the model to load (first time)
The AI model is ~30MB. First run downloads it; subsequent runs are instant.
- 3
Wait for processing
The model identifies foreground vs background pixel by pixel. Takes 5-30 seconds depending on image size and your CPU.
- 4
Preview the result
The output shows your subject on a transparent background (checkered pattern). Edges should be clean around hair, fingers, and complex shapes.
- 5
Download as PNG
Save as PNG to preserve transparency. JPG would re-add a white background.
💡 Tips
- Best results: clear contrast between subject and background, even lighting, in-focus subject.
- Worst results: low contrast, motion blur, or backgrounds with similar colors to the subject (e.g., green shirt against green wall).
- For product photos, shoot against a plain white or contrasting background to start with — even AI gets confused by busy backgrounds.
FAQ
Is my photo uploaded?
No. The model runs entirely in your browser. Verify in DevTools → Network — zero outbound traffic with image content.
Can I use this commercially?
Yes. The output is yours; the underlying model is open-source under permissive license.
What if the result has rough edges?
Try a higher-resolution input image. The model has more pixel data to work with and edges turn out smoother.
